Founded in the mid-1800s as a railroad town, Winterville features a charming mix of 1800s Victorian homes, early 1900s craftsman-styled homes, mid-century ranches and new-builds. The City is known for its artsy, “front porch” feel and is prized for its largely original Historic District, which is home to the iconic Train Depot, Winterville Library, Front Porch Bookstore, Pittard Park, Community Gardens, Community Center and Auditorium.

Residents enjoy Saturday evening concerts in this Historic District, breakfasts at the famous Little City Diner, and large events like the Marigold Festival and Christmas in the Park draw visitors near and far alike. Cyclists are drawn to the rural feel of the landscape, and the impending Firefly Trail will connect Athens to Winterville and beyond via a multi-use trail along Main Street. Winterville has seen a rapid increase in property values and demand as buyers value the quick commute to Athens but enjoy more space to spread out, all in the close knit “Mayberry” like community.
